Florida Destination Wedding Planning Tips

August 10, 2017 ·

From a ceremony location that looks like paradise to beautiful sunsets, Florida is an absolutely gorgeous place to say, “We do!”

Whether you’ve always known you wanted a beach wedding or you’ve just started thinking about a tropical celebration in the Sunshine State, there are a few things you should know. Take a look at these tips to make the most out of your destination wedding — and lessen your wedding planning stress!

1. Pick the right location.

Don’t be afraid to do a lot of research! Consider finding answers to the following questions: Where will the sun go down on your special day and at what time? What is the parking situation like at the venues you’re considering? Are you okay with having a ceremony on a public beach that may have a lot of foot traffic?

Some of the best locations for destination weddings in Florida are hotels and resorts. Places like the Don Cesar on St. Pete Beach and the Hilton on Clearwater Beach are a great options, especially if you want a beautiful setting for portraits!

2. Consider the time of year.

Although many places in Florida don’t have the same kind of seasonal weather other states do, it’s important to know the benefits and downsides of having your wedding during certain parts of the year.

Our best weather occurs between October and April. The heat has lessened and there are fewer thunderstorms than in the rainy season. However, these are also the busiest months of the year for tourism, and the sunset occurs much earlier in the day.

If you’re willing to stand the heat, summer might be best for you. The days are long and afternoon clouds create unbeatable sunsets! Keep in mind, though, that there will always be a possibility of rain during these months.

3. Find key vendors.

Planning a wedding is almost always a stressful task, and planning a wedding from another state can be downright overwhelming! Be sure you find the right vendors you’ll need for your big day, including florals, hair and makeup, rental equipment, and more.

Many wedding vendors offer ways of “meeting” beforehand, such as a phone call or video chat to help you feel confident and comfortable by the time your big day arrives. As a photographer, I have an amazing list of recommended vendors for my destination couples that are absolutely wonderful to work with!

4. Transportation

One piece that often gets overlooked in the beginning stages of wedding planning is the transportation. Determining how everyone will arrive to your venue (including yourselves!) far in advance of the wedding day is extremely helpful. You might even consider researching limo or bus rentals if you have a lot of friends and family celebrating your destination wedding with you!

5. Don’t forget to enjoy it!

No shoes? No problem! If you get married on a beautiful beach location in Florida, there’s no need for shoes or stress. Why not get married with your toes in the sand and keep it relaxed? Enjoy the scenery, the weather and the celebration without worrying about anything. It’s time to cherish the moment!
